Kjell Nordstrøm. A very unique man with oh so many talents. Designer, stylist, make up artist, top hair stylist, teacher and mentor. And much more that we will probably be pleasantly surprised by in the future. Originally Swedish but “almost Norwegian” after two decades in Oslo. Formerly known as Baron von Bulldog; an “enfant terrible” with his straight-forward and honest appearance. He’s not afraid of confrontations or making statements.
We used to be aquainted for years but really got to know eachother during my first year at Esmod. I got the opportunity of assisting him, and happy to enter his world of mindblowing creativity, experience, history and his various ways of working. And being a bit crazy myself, we were quite an interesting match. Every day was different and always exiting. Kjell has told many interesting stories from his past. He lived several years in Paris as a successful designer with his own brand, alongside working for Jean Paul Gaultier, Comme des Garcons and more.
After my graduation at Esmod, Kjell brought in a third designer, Stian Tjernsmo, for a collection called “East End Boys & West End Girls – and Terror Kids!”. Kjell designed the mens wear, Stian the kids and I designed the womens wear. Noone can gather a crowd like Kjell. When he invites to a fashion show, it creates traffic jam that ends up the wildest rock concert! Everyone is there, and it’s faboulus!
I admire him for his dauntless and strong vision in everything he does, together with high skills, high moral, quality and fantastic fantasy! And most of all for being wonderful, kind, warm – and eccentric! I’m grateful to be his friend.
Kjell dressed up and modelling for my exam collection at Esmod, looking like a cool Arabian prince with a twist. He made the fab hair and make up looks on the models, with help from the staff at Art Complexion. The jury loved it, and I ended up with the Jury Price for this collection. I believe the styling made a big difference, it was just beautiful.
